NEET Co., Ltd. is a corporation established in November 2013 under a unique project that gathered "NEETs" (young people who generally fit the description of being Not in Education, Employment, or Training) from all over Japan, with every member participating in its management. It began as an ambitious attempt to build a completely new type of business collective from scratch—one untethered by traditional work styles and conventional values.
Our objective is not to provide employment support or offer social rehabilitation opportunities to young people who do not or cannot work. Rather, it serves as an experimental laboratory where NEETs come together to explore and discover a more fulfilling "NEET lifestyle."
When individuals with diverse values and backgrounds attempt to build a company without a clear hierarchy, conflicts inevitably arise, sometimes causing mutual friction. In fact, our history is filled with constant arguments over operational policies, leaving the organization entirely fragmented.
However, as members brainstormed small tasks they could handle, turning hobbies into work, creating bases of activity with newfound friends, and engaging in nightly online discussions and heated debates, a mysterious sense of corporate loyalty began to emerge among some members. Gradually, the company became an indispensable part of their lives. While some left the company after finding standard employment, others went on to become successful entrepreneurs, and some members even married each other.
Consequently, we are no longer fixated on making a profit (though generating revenue is perfectly fine), and we have given up on trying to unite as a single, cohesive entity. Instead, we now aim to be a "place to belong" where anyone can simply exist.
Even if everyone is scattered, even if we cannot make money, it is perfectly acceptable to team up only with the people you like and do what you love. We are continuing to gather like-minded companions from across the nation, allowing each NEET to work and engage in activities in their own authentic, pleasant, and joyful way.
Upon its establishment, NEET Co., Ltd. was covered countlessly by various media outlets, including television, newspapers, and magazines. It eventually made the news on CNN, gaining first-class name recognition worldwide—a level of media hype that far exceeded the actual scale of the company at the time.
The term "NEET" stands for "Not in Education, Employment, or Training." It refers to young non-workers aged 34 and under who are not employed by any company or organization, and are not enrolled in school or vocational training institutions. It is estimated that there are over 700,000 NEETs in Japan, accounting for approximately 2.4 percent of the youth population. In essence, "NEET" is a collective term for young people who have stepped outside conventional societal frameworks. NEET Co., Ltd. was born from the belief that precisely because these young people are diverse and in the minority, they possess the unique potential to explore and create "something" entirely new.
To date, NEETs with a wide range of skills and backgrounds have joined our ranks. Our members are incredibly diverse, including individuals with perfect TOEIC scores, expertise in information technology, law, and design, as well as fortune-tellers, MENSA members, welfare recipients, and hikikomori (social recluses) with physical or mental disabilities.
Within the company, networking events and casual chat sessions take place daily. Members also organize study groups and share knowledge in areas such as music production, language acquisition, illustration, and programming. Furthermore, numerous business divisions exist within the organization—ranging from "Rental NEET," a service where a NEET can be rented for 1,000 JPY per hour, to the development of online gaming applications. We also actively accept collaboration proposals and media interview requests from other corporations.

What exactly is NEET Co., Ltd.? Even now, after nearly a decade of activity since our founding in 2013, I still do not know the answer. However, if I had to express it in a single word, I would call this place a "quagmire"—a deep, captivating swamp.
Young people who have slipped through the cracks of conventional employment and subordinate relationships have gathered here from all over Japan. Together, we have experimented with new forms of companies, businesses, ways of working, and the very nature of community. The more things we start and try, the deeper this quagmire becomes. Yet, from within its unique joys and hardships, we have discovered and learned things we never expected. There were countless times when, while flailing around in the midst of trouble, we found ourselves utterly absorbed, experiencing a strange sense of fulfillment and exhilaration. I myself am thoroughly stuck in this quagmire that is NEET Co., Ltd.
This company does not guarantee jobs or salaries, nor can it promise social recognition or success. What it does aim for, however, is to be a place of belonging and activity for anyone—accepting each individual's unique personality, obsessions, deviations, eccentricities, and complexities as much as possible. That said, tolerating others who are different or out of sync with you is no easy task. When someone rejoices, someone else grieves. Where there is light, there is shadow. Emotions are in a constant state of flux. Yet, it is precisely because of this turbulence that we can reaffirm our own humanity.
NEET Co., Ltd. is an adventure where, even if you do not know the answer, "if you fall into it, it's fun." It is a mysterious, chaotic community that feels somewhat suspicious yet irresistible to step into. From within this chaotic swamp, countless dramas continue to unfold. I, too, have felt anger, sadness, joy, and have been deeply moved time and time again. Why don't you take the plunge and lose yourself in this quagmire with us?
NEET Co., Ltd.
Founder & Chairman: Yujun Wakashin
I am Nakasama (Yosuke Naka), one of the founding members of NEET Co., Ltd. After repeating two years in university before finally graduating, I joined this company to resist the insidious Japanese custom of simultaneous mass recruitment of new graduates.
Although NEET Co., Ltd. has built up a long history since its establishment in 2013, problems in Japanese society such as low wages and long working hours remain unresolved. Far too much is demanded of people when it comes to labor.
On the other hand, themes that our members hoped for in the early days of the company—such as "I want to work without leaving the house," "I want to work without meeting people," and "I want to turn gaming into a job"—have become quite realistic due to changes in society.
I believe the general public is starting to think along the same lines. I feel that the times are finally catching up with NEET Co., Ltd.
Wasting time in a NEET lifestyle can sometimes cause anxiety. However, when you waste time together with fellow peers who are also not working at their age, it often ends up remaining as a rather fond memory. Creating a network of friends to spend such "wasteful" time with is, in its own way, necessary in life.
Our members' motivations for joining are diverse.
While there may not be much substance to it, please support NEET Co., Ltd., a place where you can catch glimpses of the future here and there.
